Choosing Art and Design will give you the opportunity to further your interest and skills in this subject. You will have the opportunity to explore your ideas in a more personal way than at GCSE level and to spend more time in developing practical techniques. Trips are organised to provide you with the opportunity of studying artwork first-hand.

 

Course Content

The full A level Art course has two units:

Component 1 – Personal Investigation
A personal investigation in which candidates develop work in response to an idea, issue, concept or theme of their choosing. At A level candidates are required to build upon their knowledge, understanding and skills gained at GCSE with greater depth of study.

Component 2 Externally set assignment
Candidates will be given a question paper containing a range of exciting starting points. Candidates will choose one to develop. They will be given a lead in period in which to prepare for the final exam. The final exam consists of a supervised period of 15 hours.

 

Where the course leads

The A level course in Art can prepare students for entry to the Foundation course at The Arts University, Bournemouth, which could lead to a BA(Hons) Degree course in a range of Art disciplines, including Architecture.
