St Edward’s Building Fund, over 70 years and still going strong

We work hard to get the very most out of our school funds but they are stretched to meet the teaching needs of our students. For many years, parents have contributed to the Building Fund to support the work of the school allowing very necessary work to be undertaken to the premises.  Contributions have also helped to dramatically extend the school, from its humble beginnings in 1963, to a school today, with over 1100 students and a varied mix of buildings.

How we use the Building Fund

In the last few years with help from the Building Fund, we have been able to focus on the main block, our oldest building and have:

  • repaired the roof
  • installed new windows
  • refurbished the girls toilets
  • re-laid and repaired the old gym floor
  • created a new Chapel from an old classroom space
  • installed fantastic performing arts spaces for drama and dance, including new a bright new classroom
  • modified the MFL department, creating new classroom spaces.

How the money is spent

As a Church school we are classed as Voluntary Aided and have to contribute 10% of costs to any Local Authority capital work.  We have been successful in securing large bids from the Local Authority to improve aged windows and update one block of toilets, but this has meant a big call on the school to pay the 10% on these projects.

Even with the bids we have secured, we don’t have sufficient funds to do all of the work required to keep the school maintained and in order to improve the outdoor areas around the school, we have had to use money from the Building Fund.  Whilst these projects have made a big difference to the school, there is still more to be done.  Key projects for this coming year are:

  • to create a bigger, better dining space
  • to move and add to our bikeshed stores

How you can help us

These are all big jobs and we need a healthy Building Fund to be able to complete these projects which will benefit all students,  please join previous generations of the students’ families to help if you can.

A regular monthly gift or a one off donation, however large or small, is the most efficient and effective way to help, especially if Gift Aided.  See Below to download a Standing Order form and a Gift Aid Form.  For a one off donation, please make cheques payable to “St Edward’s Governors Building Development Fund”.

Please send completed forms and any cheques to St Edward’s Building Fund, St Edward’s School, Dale Valley Road, Poole, BH15 3HY.  Students can bring forms to St Edward’s Finance Office.
